Monday July 28th was one of those rare summer nights after a cold front swept away the haze and clouds leaving a perfect night for observing. Louise and Walker Hanlon were guests at Dogstar Observatory. Young Walker is only 5 but he already knows the names of all the planets (and that there are 8 not 9 after Pluto’s demotion). He was also conversant in the theory of the big bang and was ready to see some night sky sights. We saw great views of Saturn, Mars, a couple of globular clusters and even diminutive Pluto. Its very encouraging to this older astronomer that kids are still interested in science and I am sure Walker is destined for great things.
