Snake surprise

A four foot black rat snake gave me quite a surprise the other day when I reached for a saw above my workbench. Snakes in our garage are not that unusual as they come after mice who see shelter and look for food in dark spaces. I only noticed this one when he struck my hand leaving two tiny red marks but not breaking the skin. The next surprise came when he started his rattlesnake mimic routine (common in many non venomous species) against the metal slat wall above my workbench. I managed to convince him to wrap around a plastic pipe and let him go in the front garden where he can eat all the mice he can find. Thanks to Michael for letting me know it was not a rattlesnake in disguise!
