You can see the moon take a small bite out of the Sun next Saturday morning. Its an “annular” solar eclipse where due to the Moon’s elliptical orbit, it leaves a ring of fire during totality. The solar eclipse on 2017 and the one next April are total eclipses where the moon completely blocks the sun. This site shows you the exact times for your location. At BMP you will see about 50% of the Sun obscurred by the moon around 1:13 PM.
We will be in Albuquerque which is in the path of totality trying out new cameras and telescopes for the big event next year.
Do not look at the sun without proper eye protection. Sun glasses are not enough! I will leave a bunch of solar glasses at the Nature Center for anyone to use.
