Happy 2018 everyone from Dogstar Observatory. It was a chilly 5 degrees F this morning. Balsam was blanketed last night with hoar frost which, while beautiful, resulted in cancellation of the highly anticipated New Years Eve party. In case you are interested, hoar frost occurs when moist air encounters surfaces will below freezing where there is not enough moisture for snow. Hoping everyone is warm and cozy by a fire and can stay off the roads this morning.
