A comet visible to the naked eye is a rare occurrence. A comet approaching the Sun was recently discovered by NASA’s NEOWISE satellite. Today is its closest approach to the Sun where it is heating up and brightening rapidly. Observers in Arizona have been able to photograph it with a short exposure in the early morning.
Comets are notoriously unpredictable so as it pulls away from the Sun it could either continue to brighten or fizzle out. If you have a good view to the rising Sun it should be visible just before sunrise with binoculars. As alway be careful when looking through any optical aid close to the Sun.
