The ubiquitous shrub (Amelanchier) is a popular landscaping plant in Balsam Mountain Preserve and an important source of food for native birds and animals – including bears! Bears

A pair of wandering bears has been making the rounds on the east side of Balsam Mountain Preserve. Yogi and BooBoo can be seen in the photo from our security webcam after snacking on the service berry bushes in the front yard.   BooBoo was spotted by the Coltons who were driving by.   BooBoo

Phoebes

This guys were born a few weeks ago and look like they are well fed. Mom and dad are in and out of the nest (which is on a beam above the front door) constantly. We were told they are Phoebes but they did not respond to questions.
