Photographing the solar eclipse from the Atlas World Traveler proved to be more challenging than I expected. The captain did a great job of keeping the ship slow and steady but with a long lens I had to keep making adjustment to keep the sun centered. There was also a steady headwind and a few whitecaps on the Balearic sea. Fortunately our cabin was on the port side and I was able to set up the two cameras and other gear on our balcony.
I created a short movie of the eclipse from C1 (first contact) to just before C2 (start of totality) when clouds blocked everything out. From C3 to the sunset the clouds thinned and I saved one showing a bit of Bailey’s beads along with the clouds. The last photo was taken after C3 with the sun setting before C4 (final contact).
With over 500 photos to work with I will eventually come up with a montage like I have done in the past for future auctions or for folks who just want prints.
